News on the next novel! Links to my many podcasts! Signed books!
If you're looking for listening material during the travel season, buckle up
If you enjoy listening to me talk and/or need hours of podcasts for the holiday travel season, holy shit do I have good news for you: I recorded nearly 30 hours of guest spots while doing promotion for my latest book. I have the complete list below, with links.
NOTE: I signed an additional 200 hardcovers of Zoey is Too Drunk, they are for sale here and they’ll ship anywhere. You’ll be supporting a cool indie bookstore in Nashville. No, I can’t personalize them, think how long that would take. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Here is the link again.
* I have been doing a biweekly podcast called BIGFEETS that has literally generated more fan mail than my last John and Dave novel. It’s an episode-by-episode rewatch of an astonishing cryptid “reality” show called Mountain Monsters and if you’re not clear why such a thing would become a viral podcast phenomenon, just give it a try (hint: the TV show involves several amateurs with zero experiencing in hunting, acting or improv having to improvise weekly battles with Bigfoot, with an effects budget of zero, accidentally creating some truly experimental art in the process). We’ve done seven episodes at the time of this writing. Here it is on Apple podcast or you can listen on Soundcloud.
* I talked about anxiety and depression on the Depresh Mode podcast (and got some truly touching messages from listeners afterward).
* I did a two-episode series about the horrific (but almost totally forgotten) Hawk’s Nest Tunnel disaster, probably the deadliest industrial disaster in US history on the Behind the Bastards podcast. Here’s Part 1 and Here’s Part 2.
* If you, like me, are a fan of the BBC panel show Taskmaster, you’ll think it’s very cool that I got to do a brief appearance on the Go Fact Yourself podcast with Taskmaster creator and co-host Alex Horne, who is a deranged genius and described our meeting as, “very strange.” Listen to it here or wherever you get podcasts.
* I reunited with Cracked legends Daniel O’Brien and Soren Bowie on their hit podcast Quick Question and discussed our experiences interacting with celebrities and with fans who think we’re celebrities.
* I did an interview for the Book Reviews Kill podcast and talked about author stuff.
* I did an interview for the Bulwark Goes to Hollywood podcast with Sonny Bunch about author stuff and the state of society in 2023.
* I did an interview with the Atomic Geekdom podcast about the new book and the publishing biz, etc.
* I caught up with my old Cracked boss Jack O’Brien at The Daily Zeitgeist podcast and tried to make sense of what is going on in the world at the moment.
* I went on the Creature Feature podcast to talk about animals whose venom is like a magical curse (there’s a snake whose bite can cause what’s called “reverse puberty!”).
* I talked to Tom and Dave on the Story Mode podcast about the surprise hit horror film Talk to Me (which it turns out was made by a couple of incredibly talented YouTubers).
* I talked about the bizarre theory that dragon myths are a natural evolution of the primate brain on the Secretly Incredibly Fascinating podcast.
* With the Dune sequel delayed, I went on the Small Beans Frame Rate podcast to discuss a different Denis Villeneuve film that most people still haven’t seen: Enemy.
* At the risk of triggering a controversy that will destroy everyone I know, I went on the Dogg Zzone 9000 podcast where we discussed brutally horrific movie scenes that we secretly find hilarious.
* I discussed one of the most baffling movies I’ve ever seen, Five Nights at Freddy’s, on the Horror Virgin podcast and went into some detail about the difficulties of story structure.
* I did a two-part interview on the This is Horror podcast, here’s Part 1 and here’s Part 2.
* Ironically, I talked to Cracked alum Michael Swaim about succeeding in a world in which self-promotion is a requirement on the Tales from the Pit podcast, Listen on Apple or on Soundcloud.
In addition to all that, I did an “Ask me Anything” at Reddit (here’s the link) and answered as many of the 400+ questions as I could (that is, like 15% of them). It took six hours. I also did a print interview here, with Paul Semel.
FINAL NOTE: Some of you noticed that at the end of Zoey is Too Drunk for This Dystopia (and also at the end of the paperback of If This Book Exists, You’re in the Wrong Universe) there is a free two-chapter preview of next year’s novel, I’m Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom. It’s a standalone story that isn’t part of any existing fictional universe, but it’s still written by me, in my usual manner, so if you hate my other books you’ll probably hate this one too. It’ll be up for pre-order early next year, I’d think.
