THE NEW BOOK IS OUT NOW EVERYWHERE and wherever I am at this moment, whatever I am doing, I can guarantee that I am very tired. Check out the trailer:
Note that if you’re someone who enjoys my essays about society but never liked my silly and often gruesome novels, this might actually be the book for you. I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom is a dark satire framed as a ticking clock thriller, a standalone novel that requires no knowledge of any of my other books or anything else. Get it wherever you prefer to get books or click here.
* Note: The audiobook should be available WORLDWIDE.
With the release has come an avalanche of podcast appearances (if you want to be updated any time my captivating voice appears on somebody’s show, I have a separate mailing list for that). But just to give you an idea, in the last couple of days alone:
I’ve done in-depth interviews on The Bulwark podcast and The Daily Beast’s New Abnormal podcast, The Fascinating podcast as well as Journalist David Farrier’s show. Then I dropped by the Secretly Incredibly Fascinating podcast, and Quick Question with Soren and Daniel, then we released a new episode of the ridiculous and totally inconsequential BIGFEETS podcast, a show that I think now has more fans than my books.
This is on top of doing daily videos on the TikTok and posting daily on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky and less frequently on YouTube and Goodreads (all of those links can be found here). So if you’re wondering why I only write like four Substack posts a year, there you go.
If you’re a superfan and want to support my writing career in the most effective possible way, first of all, I’m not worth it, but if you insist:
* If you haven’t preordered the book, get it this week so that we improve our extremely long odds at making a bestseller list. But, again, it’s totally fine to just reserve it at your local library, money doesn’t grow on trees.
* Leave a review somewhere such as Amazon (if that’s where you got it).
* When speaking about the book online, keep using the word “controversial” to describe it. In this media environment, telling someone a book/movie/game/etc is “good” will only cause them to mentally add it to the gigantic pile of stuff they’ve been meaning to read/watch/play. But if you promise controversy, you’re inviting them to join a real-life drama. People are probably fighting! You can take a side! Now, the book is not very controversial as far as I know, but you can just keep the nature of the controversy vague and if someone presses you on it, simply say, “it’s not my job to educate you.”
Here’s the buy link again. This book took a lot out of me, in every way. Thank you so much for your support.
I ordered some signed copies for me and my SIL
Listening to the audiobook now. Hilarious so far!
